Immediate past President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Mrs. Diana Hopeson, has revealed to Razz Newspaper that if people in the industry dont put a stop to the unnecessary battle over the GHS 2million given to the Creative Arts Industry by the government of Ghana in 2012, it might affect the chances of the industry getting assistance from Government and other donors.

As a patron of MUSIGA, Mrs Hopeson advised industry players not to engage themselves in activities that can drive government and investors away since it has been difficult for the Creative Arts industry to receive funding for the past years.

If we dont put a stop to the various tensions we are mounting over the money and allow the President (Obour) to work and give account at the appropriate time, nobody will invest in the industry again; because, no serious organization will like to put their money into places where there are mistrust, misunderstanding, backbiting, fighting, etc, she stated.

According to her, our industry is very young and would be happy if we can really take it upon ourselves to discuss things that will help build the industry, things that will help the industry to progress, and not things that will bring negativity to the industry.

She continued by stating that the government is not Father Christmas to give out money to the Musicians Union and not ask them to account for it. She pointed out that President Obour is supposed to make an account after his term of office and also make an annual report, which he has not refused to do, so she doesnt get the hullabaloo going on in the media.

Mrs. Hopeson lamented that, government, on record, hasnt complained that Obour has misused the money so she sees no reason why some people are spreading false rumors around. To her, she normally does not pay attention to issues like this; because she believes those spreading this kind of rumors have their own motives and agendas.

She concluded by saying that, some people are ignorant and its important we educate people who are ignorant about the process so they dont end up messing this up.
