Nasara Mariam Abdul Rauf, winner of TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful, season three, left Accra last Monday for the Philippines where she will represent Ghana at the Miss Earth International 2009.
This is not the first time the winner of the reality show will be at the Miss Earth Pageant as Lena Ama Acquah and Adoley Addo, winners of seasons one and two respectively, have all had the privilege of participating in the international pageant, thanks to the collaborative effort of TV3 and 1st Royal Events, the franchise holders of the pageant.
An obviously excited Nasara who will be away for three weeks told Graphic Showbiz last Thursday that she is really looking forward to the having a time of her life at the Philippines, “I am expecting to have fun, there are about 83 countries participating and I am looking forward to the exposure I am going to get being on the international level.”
On her expectations at the pageant, Nasara said, “I pray and hope that by the grace of Almighty Allah, I will urge all Ghanaians to back me with prayers,” she said. She used the opportunity to express gratitude to Sikkens and Stanbic Bank for supporting her.
Adwoa Sarpongmaa Baiddo, National Director of Miss Earth and Managing Director of 1st Royal Events throwing more light on her outfit’s continues collaboration with TV3 for this pageant said, “we believe it is an opportunity for the winners of Ghana’s Most Beautiful which is culturally-oriented pageant to have international exposure and to have a feel of inter-cultural exchange in terms of tourism and environmental issues which will impact positively on them back home.”
The Miss Earth pageant which was launched and organised in 2001 is a beauty event whose candidates and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth. Apart from the strong emphasis on the environmental protection programmes, Miss Earth also aims to showcase and promote various tourist destinations.
Every year, 80 to 90 candidates from all over the world compete on beauty and knowledge of environmental issues. The winner of Miss Earth will serve as the ambassador to environmental protection campaigns world-wide.
