Ghanaian boxer and former IBF Bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko will mount the ring on the May 16 against Juanito Rubillar, reports Sportscrusader.com.

The 10 rounder is a warm-up fight for the IBF Former Champion ahead of a potential world title fight in September this year.

Agbeko who is currently training with Coach Odaquaye in the United States of America will use this fight to propel himself for a crack again at the world title.

The May 16 bout according to the Public Relations Officer of Agbeko, Ebenezer Noye will take place at the Southwest University Event Center El Paso, Texas, United States of America.

“Yes the bout is confirmed, and Agbeko will be fighting on the 16th of May in Texas, he is currently ben trained by coach Odaquaye and we are hopeful that he will come on top at the end of the fight”.

Sources close to Sportscrusader.com have hinted that National amateur coach Ofori Asare who is the trainer of Joseph Agbeko will be leaving soon to the United States to intensify Agbeko’s training ahaead of the bout against Juanito Rubillar on the 16th of May.

Meanwhile, Agbeko has lashed out at government and sports authorities for what he claims they are over-concentrating on football to the detriment of other sporting disciplines in this country, and has expressed the fear that boxing could slump even deeper if the trend continues.

The Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation has been largely dormant since the resignation of immediate past president, Ray Quarcoo last year and are only due to elect new leaders on April 18 and Agbeko is sad by the lack of activity for a hugely talented pool of upcoming boxers.

Inspired by a group of amateur boxers from Kazakhstan who are currently in the US on a training tour, the former Ghana amateur team boxer took to Twitter to express his utmost disappointment at no such initiatives back home.

“Kazakhstan National Boxing Team on training tour. Ghana Amateur Team is definitely sleeping by now,” King Kong tweeted very bluntly.
