RICS Charities, a subsidiary of RICS Consult Limited on Monday donated sports items to the University of Ghana (UG) Sports Directorate towards this years annual Inter-Halls Sports Games.

The items worth GH6,000 included the Vice-Chancellors Overall Champion trophy, two sets of jerseys, footballs, plaques for all the disciplines to be competed for by the Halls, goalkeepers gloves, football boots and Games pull-up banner.

The UG Inter-Halls Games, which commences on Tuesday, October 6, will involve the five (5) traditional Halls made up of Akuafo, Commonwealth, Legon, Mensah-Sarbah and Volta, who would compete in 11 disciplines including Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cross-country, Handball, Hockey, Soccer, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Goal Ball for the physically-challenged.

Magnus Rex Danquah, Executive Chairman of RICS Consult Limited who made the presentation, said his outfit recognizes the dearth of talents that abound in the Universitys, hence the decision to support the Games to help unearth such talents for various national assignments.

He expressed optimism that the support for the Games will assist in consolidating the annual event as a major part of the national agenda to identify and develop new champions for the various international assignments ahead of the nation.

The donation also comes especially at this time that the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Government is seriously considering a bid for the rights to host and organise the 2015 edition of the All-Africa Games.

Mr Rex Danquah assured the Sports Directorate of the premier university that his company will be favourably predisposed to a suggestion to provide individual awards for athletes who will break existing University records that have lasted more than a decade.

Dr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Director of Sports of the University noted the benefits of the support and said assurances for the future will motivate the students to take the Games more serious than it has been in the past.

He commended the company and also appealed to other corporate bodies to support the annual UG Inter-Halls Games for the numerous benefits that it would bring to the overall mental development of the students as future leaders.
