Ex Black Star defender Samuel Osei Kuffour says his saddest moment is not being able to win a trophy with the senior national team.

The former Bayern Munich star, who is one of the all time best players on the African continent, was part of the promising generation of players who burst onto the world scene winning the 1991 Fifa Under 17 World Cup in Italy.

The 35 year old’s illustrious career saw him winning the Uefa Champions League in 2001 and a career total of 17 titles overall.

But that is in sharp contrast with the achievements of the Black Star who failed to win trophy despite coming closest in the 1992 Africa Nations Cup where they were beaten by Cote D’Ivoire in the final game.

Speaking on E TV’s “Revealed” last Tuesday, Samuel Osei Kuffour revealed his frustration at the senior national team’s inability to win any silverware during his playing days.

“For me that was the sad thing in my life”, he said. “Sometimes when I sit down and just analyse my life in terms football, it pains me that I couldn’t win anything because there is nothing that I can prove and show that I won something for Black Stars. ”

The 1991 Fifa Under 17 World Cup winner added “for me being part of the team that went to the world cup in 2006 was great, but there is nothing that I can show to my children. ”

“The only thing that I have is a jersey that I can show my children that I also played at the world cup. It pains me. ”

Kuffour, who is due to stage his own testimonial match at the Baba Yara stadium on 23rd December, 2011 also said he believes his generation had better quality players than the current crop of players.

He however, blamed the team’s poor performance on the quality of organisation at the time.

“We had the quality players at the time. I think that quality was far better than today, in my opinion,” he stressed.

“But when you compare in terms of organisation, this time, it is far better than our time.

“Honestly, because sometimes when you finish the game, the Black Star players had to wait at the stadium to get their bonuses or the plane fair is not paid, and things like that.

“I mean those are the things we lacked those days. So unfortunately we couldn’t win anything with that determination, with that sought of treatment.
