A Former Deputy Education and Sports Minister in the Kufour led administration, O.B. Amoah has said, the only way government would invest in the sport sector is when Ghana bid and host major tournaments as done in the Kufour administration when Ghana hosted the 2008 AFCON.
According to him, the sports Ministry on its own can never build sports facilities in the country if government does not release funds.
He believes that if Ghana is really into sports, then the country should have had sports arenas in every region so as to promote sporting activities.
Speaking on Accra-based Happy FM; the MP for Aburi-Nsawam counseled the sports ministry to pressurize the government to invest more into sports by bidding for challenging tournaments that government would have no option than to raise funds to build infrastructures.
If they (Sports ministry) seek funds to develop sports, definitely government will tell them there is no money. They should force the government to invest in sports. The way to force them (government) is to organize competitions, with that the government have no choice than to invest.
Ghana should bid and host major tournaments and then the government will be forced to invest in sports infrastructure for sports development, he advised.
