A Locally-based NGO, Mighty Gift Health Consortium, will yet again put smiles on the faces of the disabled and physically challenged athletes as they procure over 500 manual wheelchairs from Bologna, Italy, to distribute to all general hospitals.
The CEO of the consortium, Jeffery Ato Jonah, will depart Accra to Bologna in the middle of this month to formalise the procurement of the items from partners Progettiano Autonomia, makers of wheelchairs, and Ms Rosanna De Fronzo of TECHNO Hospital.
According to Mr Jonah, among the 500 pieces of medical equipment will be a folding wheelchair, orthopaedic beds and mattresses, carrozzina pieghevole folding wheelchair and other items.
He emphasised that while a number of the items would be donated to general hospitals across the nation, one major target would be those for the disabled, who are interested in sports.
He told the Daily Graphic that the charitable project started four years ago in collaboration with the Health Ministry and was aimed at supporting the physically handicapped to sustain them through sports and other activities to eke out a living.
He was grateful to his Italian partners, Ms De Fronzo and Progettiano Autonomia, for their support.
