Ghana’s participation in the 2015 All Africa Games (AAG), hangs in the balance following a directive from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS).

The Ministry has asked the National Sports Authority (NSA), to raise money from its Internally Generated Funds (IGF), to pay the 35, 000 dollars affiliation fees owed the Supreme Council of Sports in Africa (SCSA), to guarantee participation .

Ghana, risk been barred from participating in the 2015 AAG if she fails to pay the affiliation fees owed the organisers of the biggest continental multiple sports event.

Ghana in 2011 was banned from the Games Village in Maputo, Mozambique for days, due to non-payment of affiliation fees and was also unable to participate in the opening ceremony of the competition.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports, reveals that MOYS issued the directive three weeks ago after a meeting with Chef D’ Mission..

A source at the NSA told the GNA Sports that they are unlikely to meet the directive since funds generated are woefully inadequate to meet basic and immediate needs of the NSA.

The source added that, the NSA is also obliged to return 40% of the IGF to the Ministry of Finance and this will further worsen their plight and affect their chances of raising the required amount for the payment of the affiliation fee.

According to the source, the NSA has for the past three to four years not received its budgetary allocation from MOYS and wondered why such a directive came from the ministry.

The source added that the directive will compound the difficult financial situation of the NSA as they have not received funds from MOYS for preparations towards the games in September.
