The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) will launch the 2014 Awards today at the Accra International Press Centre.
The event, which takes place at 2:00p.m., is the first of activities lined up as a build up to the 40th edition of the prestigious event, now sponsored by telecommunications giants, MTN.
According to the General Secretary, William Ezah, the build up had become necessary due to the delay in staging the event.
"The event is for those who excelled in 2014 and traditionally, this should have been held last March, but due to the SWAG elections and other circumstances, it has had to delay till the fixed date, October 3.
"It is, therefore, necessary to roll out a few events to ensure that the importance of the Awards is not lost on our stakeholders," the general secretary said.
The 40th Awards event will honour 25 sportsmen and sportswomen who excelled and distinguished themselves in their various disciplines during the 2014 sporting calendar year. Other stakeholders who have played various roles in the development and promotion of sports, would also be honoured.
