It’s been almost two years when Mother Ghana had the third opportunity of hosting the 26th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. Oh! How time flies; it is now the turn of Angola to showcase their hosting prowess come January 2010 (about four months away).

Ghana Sports, your latest and authenticated Sports Paper deems it fit to take readers through memory lane as we count down to the event.

This and every Monday get a copy of the authentic Ghana Sports as they take you through the history of the competition in general and Ghana Black Stars in particular. We kicking off today with a retrospective look at the 1963 nations cup vis-à-vis the Black stars.

As the first Ghanaian player to play in the Bundesliga, C.K. Gyamfi’s Fortuna Düsseldorf career was short lived as he was called back home in 1961 to help in shaping the Black Stars. C.K. became the assistant national coach, helping Hungarian Joseph Ember. In 1962 Ember left and the mantle fell on him to prepare the Black Stars for the African Cup of Nations, which the country hosted and won the following year.

Messrs B.B. Bismark and Nkansah Gyan assisted C.K. as team manager and team doctor respectively.
