The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief executive, Mr Anthony Aikins has appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Central Region to give the necessary support and encouragement to the newly inaugurated Regional Women’s Football Association which aims at promoting women’s soccer in the Region.

Mr Aikins made the appeal when he presented a trophy to Cape Coast Vodafone Ladies for emerging champions in a special Gala competition organized by the Regional Women’s Football Association to usher in the women’s league slated for October 10 this year.

He said that football sport has become a lucrative career venture and advised the players to take their training seriously to enable them qualify for national assignments.

The MCE commended the eight women’s soccer clubs which participated in the tournament for their good sportsmanship and asked them to keep it up.

In the final match, Vodafone Ladies trounced Ayensudo PSK Ladies 3-0 to lift the ultimate trophy, with Florence Dadson clinching the ‘Goal Queen’ award for scoring six goals in the tournament, which included registering a ‘hat trick’ against Ayensudo PSK Ladies in the finals.

In the preliminaries, Vodafone Ladies also spanked Kasoa Blessed Ladies 3-0, with Elmina Bafana-Bafana Ladies losing 3-1 to Ayensodo PSK Ladies, while Assin-North Ladies thrashed Elmina Super Blessing Ladies 9-0 and Winneba Soccer Intellectuals also beat Gomoa Kampsite 3-0 to qualify for the semi-finals.

Vodaphone Ladies beat Assin-North Ladies 3-0 and Ayensodo PSK Ladies beat Winneba Intellectuals 5-4 on penalties in the semi-finals to qualify for the finals.

Among organizations and institutions which supported the organisation of the Gala were the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem, Mfantsiman, Assin North and Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District Assemblies, and the Kakum Rural Bank, Paa Badu Company, SONTURK Group of Companies, Kwesi Walker Sawmill and Liahona Waters.
