England U-20 coach Brain Eastick admits they were “outplayed in every department” after their capitulation to Ghana at the World Cup in Egypt. The Black Satellites' 4-0 thrashing of England on Tuesday night has left the young Three Lions hopes hanging by a thread.
The Ghanaians completely dominated the Europeans and sealed their place in the last 16 of the tournament following the comprehensive victory.
Eastick admits the Black Satellites thoroughly deserved their victory but his boys failed to turn up for the midfield battle.
He said: "It started off reasonably - but it got worse. We didn't keep our discipline, and against a side like Ghana you have got to keep your discipline.
"We had some key players missing and that hampered our options but it's no excuse.
“While 4-0 may have been a little bit harsh, we certainly deserved to be beaten.
“We were: physically, technically and tactically - and I have absolutely no complaints about being beaten by a better side.”
Dominic Adiyiah's 38th-minute strike did little to settle their stomachs after Tottenham striker Jon Obika struck the woodwork early on.
Liverpool centre-back Martin Kelly had a chance to level after the break but Andre Ayew doubled Ghana's lead with a 25-yard stunner.
Ransford Osei, a star for Steve McClaren's FC Twente, and Adiyiah's second wrapped up the easy win late on.
England must now beat Uzbekistan by a sizeable margin on Friday to stand any chance of reaching the last 16. “We're not creating chances, so we have to address that, but first I need to rebuild these players over the next few days,” Eastick said.
"We know we still have a small chance of qualifying and we have to regroup quickly."
