Welbeck Abra-Appiah has confirmed he will be resigning as chairman of the Ghana Premier League Board at the end of the current campaign.
However in denying earlier reports of his sacking by the GFA for an alleged spat with the associations disciplinary committee over the recent award of points to Mighty Jets, the renowned banker says his resignation is to afford him more time to concentrate on other duties and responsibilities.
I had a discussion with the GFA President (Kwasi Nyantakyi) before his departure to Switzerland over my decision to resign from the PLB, he told Hot FM.
The PLB i must say is a very time-consuming job and has robbed me off other impending responsibilities which i believe are also very important. It has absolutely nothing to do with any disagreement whatsoever as widely reported.
Abrah-Appiah who has been in the PLB saddle for over five years however says he is not completely leaving football and that anytime he is called upon and is able, he will not hesitate to render his services.
I have been associated with Ghana football for a very long time and therefore have garnered enormous experience. If in future i am called upon to help in any capacity and it doesnt conflict with my schedule, why not? I will always be available.
The celebrated administrator is widely credited for the expansion of the sponsorship deal in the Ghana top-flight and would be always remembered for his usual advice of education of the laws of the game.
