Tamale Sports Stadium Could Host Satellites Return Encounter With Uganda

The Tamale Sports Stadium is being considered as the venue to host Ghana’s return encounter with Uganda in the African Youth Championship qualifier.

The Black Satellites were humbled 3-1 by The Hippos in the first leg on Saturday.

However issues have been raised over the poor playing surface in Nakivubo even though the Ghanaian team are refusing to make a meal out of it.

Chairman of the Black Satellites Committee George Afriyie says the team have proposed the use of the Tamale Sports Stadium as the venue for the return encounter in a fortnight of which a final decision is yet to be taken.

“We have made a proposal to play the game in Tamale,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“It was one of the venues used during CAN 2008 and the facilities there are in good shape especially the pitch.

“We also want the other regions to have a feel of the national team since all the games have been played in either Accra or Kumasi for some time now.”

Afriyie however debunked muted perceptions that team Ghana’s plan of sending the game up north is to give way for some underhand machinations in response to the rural venue of the first leg encounter in Nakivubo.

“Does than mean that Tamale, a venue that a Nations Cup game was hosted in is a rural area?” he added.

“I have told you earlier that we want other parts of the country to have a feel of the national team and the facilities there too are very good.

“Is better as compared to Nakivubo and I am sure they (Uganda) will also enjoy it there.”

The Ghana FA declared last week that it was impossible to have the Black Stars play at venues other than in Accra and Kumasi due to unpalatable experiences last term.

The Ghana FA however said all other national team matches will be spread across the country.
