The government has thanked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for contributing to the funeral of the late President of Ghana Prof John Evans Atta Mills.
The GFA played an active role in the funeral of the late leader of the country who was buried last month.
GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi also abandoned his duties at the Olympic Games in London to enable him attend the funeral of the country�s late leader.
GFA board members, clubs and officials also participated in the funeral of the late leader.
Ghana football authorities appealed to CAF last month to enable the Black Stars wear black armbands during their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi in Accra which the continent�s government approved.
�Today�s congress is the biggest platform the ministry has after the final funeral rites of our late president His Excellency Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, to address officials of the GFA,� the Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Clement Kofi Humado said at the annual congress of the GFA in Prampram on Wednesday.
�I therefore wish to extend to the GFA the profound gratitude of the Ministry and for that matter government for your individual and collective supportive role and sacrifices during the organisation of the funeral.
�The GFA�s decision that got the Back Stars to wear black armbands during their recent 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Flames of Malawi in honour and memory of our late President is highly appreciated.�
