Ghana defender John Mensah could miss next year’s African Cup of Nations due to clublessness.
The 30-year-old has remained inactive since he was released by French giants Olympique Lyon in June.
The strong centre-back is racing against time to find a new club and start a kicking ball before he will be considered for the 2013 African Cup of Nations.
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has insisted only players who are playing competitive football would be called up for international duty, meaning the former Ghana captain could miss the boat to South Africa.
The former Sunderland man has remained a tall figure in defence for the Ghanaians but recurrent injuries has taken a toll on his career.
The potential absence of the towering defender will mean Isaac Vorsah and in-form John Boye will be relied upon to keep strikers in check at the continental showpiece.
Mensah has 78 senior caps and currently training with former side Rennes to keep his shape.
