Asamoah Gyan is just a goal shy of equalling last season�s goal haul by scoring in Al Ain�s 2-0 win at Al Nasr on Sunday.
The Ghana captain scored the second goal for the visitors in the 37th minute as they coasted to victory at the Rashid Al-Maktoum stadium in Abu Dhabi.
DR Congo striker Jires Kembo Ekoko opened the scoring in the 7th minutes before the Ghanaian super star made sure of the maximum points 30 minutes later.
The 27-year-old has been on fire in the UAE Pro League where he has now increased his goal tally to 21 in 13 matches.
The Ghana captain is now in pole position of equaling or surpassing last season�s goal haul of 22 which won him the Golden Boot award.
Gyan�s impressive goal scoring form will be crucial for Ghana ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations where he is expected to spearhead the country�s campaign at the continental showpiece.
