The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi has said Ghanaian fans should not express anxiety about the pathetic performance of the Stars during their quarter-final match against Cape Verde but rather concentrate on the win which is more applicable in a competition of such repute.
According to Kwesi Nyantakyi, the Stars knew how difficult their encounter was going to be with Cape Verde since they do not have any pressure on them.
We knew that this was going to be a difficult match, this is not the first time that weve played Cape Verde...In a run-up to the 2006 World cup, we played them in Kumasi and won two zero and Ghanaians said they were not happy with the beauty of football that was on display and that led to the resignation of Coach Mariano Barreto (Former Black Stars Coach).
We (Stars) went there and beat themthe third match was when we beat them one nil in Leesburg. he said.
In a press conference after Ghanas win over Cape Verde, GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi told the media that, a tournament such as the AFCON do not need any beautiful play but rather results that will see a team through the finals.
What is important is securing the three points and not how fanciful or beautiful you play, he added.
Adding, I think we must thank our players, we have to thank the technical team and also we have to give thanks to God for seeing us through. You agree with me it was a very very difficult match. Weve just crossed the quarter-final hurdle so we have to start thinking about the semi-final. When we get to the final Im sure well cross the river, he told the gathered press.
Ghana and Burkina Faso will meet in the semi-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations seeking to book a place in the final on February 10.
The West African neighbors will square off on in the second semi-final on Wednesday at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, South Africa.
Burkina Faso set up the last four meeting after beating Togo 1-0 on Sunday, a day after Ghana were 2-0 winners over Cape Verde.
