Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah says he did not operate upfront because he was asked to support defender Daniel Opare.
Opare was used in a make-shift role as he was deployed on his unfavourite left-back position due to the absence of Harrison Afful.
The Standard Liege defender had a quite game at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi during the World Cup play-off first legt tie against Egypt as Asamoah served as a cover.
Asamoah, who plays for Juventus, has revealed he was asked to support the former Ghana Under-20 star.
The coach asked me to support Opare and thats why I was not going forward that much in the game, Asamoah said.
You know that is not the ideal position for Opare and so I served as a cover.
Of course occasionally I surged forward but my primary duty was to stay back more an help Opare out.
The Black Stars went ahead to defeat the Pharaohs 6-1 in Kumasi.
