A 53rd minute strike by Ashgold's Francis Adjei was all that the miners needed to clinch a 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in a GHALCA Top Four first leg clash at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday.
An unmarked Adjei chanced on a stray ball from a goalmouth scramble and without hesitation blasted home a thunderbolt from a close range.
The first half of the game saw Ashgold make series of incursions for goal and came close to scoring in the 30th and 42nd minutes, but wasted those efforts.
The miners, taking over the game in the second half, pinned Kotoko to their own half and probed for the needed goals which never arrived.
