Ghana FA Vice President is having to work double duty to defend his boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

George Afriyie has added his voice to the backers of the embattled GFA boss, who is seeing pressure from Ghanaians that he leaves the top job after 12 years in charge.

Critics say the FA boss has superintended over the collapse of local football, with the Premier League clubs unable to go far in African club competitions. This feeling has been exacerbated by the poor showing of the Black Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

“Everyone is entitled to his views. One thing I believe is the fact that Kwesi Nyantakyi has served Ghana football for the past 12 years after his mandate was renewed and set to expire in 2019,” Afriyie told Nhyira FM.

“Personally, I think that he still can do the job. We can always make sure to improve upon things that hasn’t gone well in the past. I don’t buy into people’s idea of wanting to force him out of office with demonstration. Clearly, I don’t see how this thing is going to be possible.”

Kwesi Nyantakyi became FA boss in 2005 and has taken Ghana to three successive World Cups in 2006, 2010 and 2014 respectively.
