Black Satellites Captain Issahaku Konda says the team wants to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup like the 2009 team led by Andre Ayew.
Ghana won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009 to become the first and only African country to win the mundial. However, the country has struggled to replicate that achievement and missed out on the last edition following the failure of the team to qualify for the Africa Youth Championship in 2017.
The Black Satellites beat Algeria on Sunday top reach the final round of qualifies for the Africa Youth Championship where they face Benin.
After the win over the Young Fennec Warriors of Algeria, the Captain of the side reaffirmed the team's main objective.
"We are thankful to God for the victory over Algeria and we thank Ghanaians for their support," he said after the game. "I also want to thank the Coach and his technical team for a job well done," he added.
"Ghanaians should expect us at the Africa Cup in Niger because next year is the tenth anniversary of Ghana winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup and when we look at what the Dede Ayew's, the Jonathan Mensah's and Co. did, that is what we want to replicate," he concluded.
The Black Satellites will have to beat Benin in a two legged game to qualify for the Africa Youth Championship in Niger. Ghana won the competition for the last time in 2009 in Rwanda.
