Frenkie de Jong has denied claims he is refusing to take a salary cut at Barcelona and revealed how he had accepted a lower rate during the first three years of his deal at the Nou Camp.
The Catalan giants offered de Jong a whopping £400,000-a-week deal after tax when he signed for the club three years ago. He was then handed an extremely lucrative extension under former president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
However, the Holland international has come under fire for his lofty salary given the fact the club are currently grappling with a financial crisis and trying to abide by LaLiga's financial fair play rules.
De Jong was given a massive two-year extension by previous Barcelona president Bartomeu and is due to earn €20million (£16.8m) net this season and as much as €25m (£21m) the following campaign with £17m of deferred wages factored in.
