�Arthur Wharton, born in Cape Coast, in the then Gold Coast in 1865, was the first black person to play professional football in the United Kingdom. He was also the world�s 100 metres champion at his peak.Just before Ghana played England last April, a short ceremony was organised at Wembley to officially recognise his role. Wharton died in the UK in 1930.�
