President John Evans Atta Mills says the decision to relocate the national gas plant from Bonyere to Atuabo, both in the Western Region was not influenced by anybody but the interest of the nation. He said initially the plan was to site the plant at Bonyere close to the Osagyefo Badge, but the decision to relocate it to Atuabo is to reduce the laying of pipelines by 23 kilometers, adding in Twi: �na wompe wei, na wope dien� to wit, �what better offer can one get than this.�. In other words, the cost implications would be more if the plant is sited at Bonyere. Answering questions at a town hall meeting with Ghanaians in Washington, President Mills assured the chiefs and people of Bonyere that apart from the plant all other projects earmarked for the area will go ahead as scheduled. �The technical details are quite clear; it�s better for us to go to Atuabo� the technical report has stated� we want the best for our country...Constructing the facility at Atuabo alone would mean that we will reduce the length of the pipeline by 23 kilometres," he said.
