SISSALA East Assembly Signs MOU With GIDA/WFP To Build Dug-outs

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has finally been sealed between three parties including the Sissala East District Assembly, World Food Programme (WFP) and the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) to begin the construction of nine dug-outs in the Sissala East district. This will ostensibly promote agricultural activities in beneficiary areas, as the move seeks to facilitate sustainable irrigation projects for various farmers of the district. The beneficiary communities are Sakai, Sakallu, Bandei, Nabulo, Pieng, and Kasanna. The rest are Mmanduanu, Kulfuo and Sentie all in the Sissala East district. Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com on the project, the District Chief Executive for the area, Sulemana Alijata Gbentie confirmed that all is set for the project to be rolled-out in these areas. She revealed that the Assembly has already procured tools to the tune of GHS 8,900 which would be made available for community members who will partake in the execution of the projects in the nine communities. World Food Programme also has measures in place to provide adequate food for men who will be working on the project in various areas, whiles GIDA would concern itself with producing the technical bits for the smooth and efficient implementation of the project she disclosed. However government has prioritized irrigation development as the key mechanism to guarantee for an all year round agriculture production in Ghana.
