Assembly Adopts Measures To Improve BECE Results

The Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region have instituted measures to address the falling standard of education in the municipality especially BECE results. The MCE disclosed that the Assembly is collaborating with the Municipal Education Office (MEO) to organize extra classes for all Public Basic School pupils in the municipality and pay allowances to Teachers for the extra time spent in teaching the students. Additionally, the Assembly together with the Municipal Education Directorate is to spend GHS30, 000.00 to organize a third mock examination to prepare our candidates for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the municipality at the cost of GHc30, 000.00. Meanwhile, the assembly has also resolved to undertake over seven new infrastructure projects this year in the education sector. The projects according to the Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Andrews Sodah is among several interventions instituted by the government in collaboration with the municipal assembly in line with Government�s �Better Ghana� agenda to bring quality education to the door step of the citizens. He underscored the relevance of these projects adding that their successful execution would ensure decent classroom and Teacher accommodation which would contribute immensely to quality education delivery in the municipality. Areas to benefit include Somanya Alhidaya Primary, Huhunya Presby Basic School, Akpo-Yiwase Primary and Oterkpolu Roman Catholic Primary. The rest are Kakama D/A Primary,Nkurakan Presby Primary and Teachers� Bungalow for YIKROSEC. Mr. Sodah expressed hope that the contractors who would work on the various projects deliver quality work and on time. He challenged assembly members especially those whose jurisdiction the projects fall to visit the project sites to abreast themselves of progress of work.
