Work has begun on an 8.5-kilometre stretch of the Abum-Kyenkyensibuaso, Nakete-New Sawireson roads at an estimated cost of GH�29 million. The project when completed, will not only enhance the carting of cocoa and farm produce from rural communities to marketing and buying centers, but will also link that part of the country to neighboring Cote d�Ivoire to boost trading activities. At a sod-cutting ceremony, the District Chief Executive for the area, Abraham Atta Bosompem, said the government had secured funding for the rehabilitation and tarring of major roads in cocoa producing areas nationwide. He said the government was concerned about the poor nature of roads in rural areas which hampered the evacuation of cocoa and was therefore doing all it could to address it. He mentioned Pato, Duatwa, Asibrem, Amankrom, Agyarekrom and Abesim as some of the communities which would also benefit from the roads rehabilitation programme. The DCE said the assembly was also rehabilitating a number of schools and health facilities to enhance education and health care service delivery. On rural electrification, Mr. Bosompem said 44 communities were to be connected to the national grid under the government�s Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP) and mentioned some of the beneficiary communities as New-Sawireso, Anwiawso Sakyikrom, Kenkyensibuaso and Nakete.
