The Kokofu-Mensase Presbyterian Church in the Bekwai Municipality has marked 60 years of existence with a reminder to Christians to do more to promote the common good among mankind. The Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery, said they need to provide hope and inspiration in the face of the current socio-economic crisis mankind is confronted with. He cited marriage breakdowns, economic difficulties, growing incidence of poverty, corruption, crimes and other social vices and said these should engage their attention. �That all may be one�, was the theme of the anniversary celebration. The Rev Dr Opuni-Frimpong said he found it worrying that many Christians appear to have lost their focus, showing unbridled lust for wealth, power and influence. �They simply have no empathy for the poor and the suffering, become self-conceited, paying no regard for our common humanity.� The Presbytery Chairman underlined the need for the church to deepen its partnership with the state towards tackling the basic needs of the people. It should strengthen its social services to ensure the availability of potable water, quality healthcare and education for the people. Mr Kofi Agyemang, the Catechist of the church, paid glowing tribute to the congregation for standing firm in their faith despite challenges. He also lauded the founding fathers for their vision and pledged they would continue to build on the solid foundation laid.
