2 Arrested Over Military Gun

The police have retrieved an M16 rifle, used by the military, and a single barrel gun from two suspects who attempted to sell the guns. The suspects, Kwesi Afful, 36, and Benjamin Ansah, also known as Kaka, 22, were arrested at the new Achimota terminal, with the guns dismantled in a kitbag. They also had in their possession three rounds of ammunitions for the M16 and one AA cartridge. Briefing The Finder in Accra on Wednesday, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Frank Adufati, said at about 5:30 am on March 15, Kwesi and Benjamin were arrested upon a tip-off. He said the police�s search of the kitbag, which was in the care of Benjamin, following the arrest of the two, revealed the two guns, three rounds of ammunitions, one AA cartridge, two kitchen knives and a screw driver. According to Chief Supt Adufati, when interrogated, Kwesi and Benjamin stated that the guns were given to them by one Oyoo Kofi at the Tema Fishing Harbour to be sent to one Francis Achimota to find a prospective buyer. He said the two had failed to assist the police trace Oyoo and Francis. Meanwhile, Kwesi and Benjamin have been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court on a holding charge of possessing firearm and ammunition without lawful authority. �On completion of the investigation, the case docket will be forwarded to the Attorney General (AG) for prosecution since such cases are prosecuted by the AG,� Chief Supt Adufati noted.
