EC: 4.1m Registered; 600 Multiple Registrations Detected

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has revealed it has registered a total of 4.1 million voters in the first phase of the ongoing biometric registration exercise. According to the acting Director of Communications of the EC, Christian Owusu Parry, unlike the first phase, the second stage of the process is moving on smoothly because the registration officials are now conversant with the equipment. The registration is ongoing smoothly, Mr. Parry said. We did not have any incident of equipment breakdown. I believe there will be improvement in the figures because the people work faster now and are more skillful with the equipment. He confirmed that about 600 multiple registrations have been detected nationwide allaying fears that the problem occurred at a particular region that could favour a particular political party. They dont come from any particular part of the country. Its all over and not peculiar to any region or district, Mr. Parry told Accra-based Joy FM. He added: There is an adjudicating committee looking at those cases. What is important is to establish whether they were done deliberately or some thought their photographs were not nice so they decided to have another registration just that they can have better photographs. The outcome of the investigations should determine what should be done.
