No Party Is Gifted 2012 Election

Presidential candidate of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, says the 2012 General Election is not gifted to any political party. so far as the PPP is concerned nobody has won the December 7 poll; we all have zero votes, Dr. Nduom affirmed. The PPP flag-bearer made this statement when he interacted with editors and senior journalists of some media houses in Accra yesterday. According to Dr. Nduom, each of the contesting political parties in this years presidential and parliamentary elections has no votes and would have to work for votes. In this regard, he said the PPP will not relent but will work hard to garner enough votes, stressing that we (PPP) truly believe that we have something better to offer the good people of this country compared to the so-called political parties. Dr. Nduom indicated that in July this year the party will begin its campaign in full swing, noting that this years polls will be very interesting. He disclosed that so far the PPP has about 26,000 paid-up members, adding that by the end of April, the party intends to push it p to 50,000. Touching on parliamentary candidates, Dr. Nduom said the party intends to field candidates in all the 230 constituencies. These are going to be good people who have identified themselves to contest in various constituencies across the country and would have passed the scrutiny of the leadership of the PPP, the PPP flagbearer disclosed. According to him, several party members have expressed their willingness to contest parliamentary seats, disclosing that some have already been confirmed by the PPP leadership. He added that the PPP will also ensure that 20% of its parliamentary aspirants are women. For instance, in the Central Region five women have declared their intention to contest in the parliamentary elections in their respective constituencies, Dr. Nduom revealed. The PPP flagbearer also used the opportunity to reiterate that there is no such thing as leader or founder of the PPP. He said it is wrong for the media to label him as the founder or leader of the PPP. I am not the founder or leader of the PPP but a founding member of the party, Dr. Nduom asserted. For this part, the National Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond, said within the next 30 weeks the PPP will be engaging the media in a number of issues affecting the people in the country. This, he disclosed, will take the form of press conferences which will afford the PPP the opportunity to sell its political agenda to Ghanaians, through the media.
