The members of the Ga Dangbe Youth Association have said they believe the recent fire outbreak that engulfed the Lands Commission few weeks ago was an act of arson.
Land documents and files including archival and colonial records were consumed in the fire that swept through the head office of the Lands Commission at Cantonments in Accra on the 1st of March this year.
The Ga-Dangbe Youth accused officials of the Commission of starting the fire in order to lose documents which can implicate them of corruption.
A spokesperson for the association, Nii Yemo Yemofio said the Lands Commission allocation of lands around the Cantonment area, which the La Traditional Council claimed ownership is confirmation of their claim that the fire outbreak was deliberate.
�Before this fire happened, the Lands Commission was able to release 12 plots of lands to the La Traditional Council,� he told Citi News. �It was exactly two days after that the fire broke out. It is too much of a coincidence and so we suspect there is foul play.
Nii Yemofio also accused the lands commission of giving lands promised the La Traditional Council to other people. He said the Lands Commission had the documents to prove the lands belonged to the people of La but suspects they set up the fire to conceal the evidence.
