Over 1000 Cholera Cases Recorded In Greater Accra

Over one thousand cases of Cholera were reported in the first quarter of 2012 in the Greater Accra region alone thus according to the Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Irene Agyepong-Amartefio. According to her although there has been an increment in cholera cases, lesser deaths have been recorded. In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Agyepong-Amarteifio said the low death rate recorded can be attributed to effective public education. She said we tally the cases by weeks and since January we now have a total of 1, 091 cases, thats as at Sunday and out of that about half actually occurred last Sunday so the cases are going up. However we are happy to say that the death per case are actually coming down so last week even though we had more cases than weve seen in the last thirteen weeks, we actually lost less than one percent of the cases whereas in previous cases the case fatality was higher. People are more alert.
