Lieutenant General Peter Augustine Blay, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has appealed to the French Embassy to assist in solving the accommodation problem facing the Ghana Military Academy.
He made the appeal when the French Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Ferderic Clavier, paid a working visit to the CDS, as part of continued efforts at maintaining peace and stability between Francophone countries and Ghana.
The CDS also asked the French Embassy to assist in the rehabilitation of the road network at the Bundase training camp.
This was contained in a statement issued in Accra by Lieutenant Colonel E. Aggrey-Quashie of Ghana Armed Forces Public Relations Directorate and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Lt-Gen. Blay expressed appreciation to the French Embassy for the assistance and opportunities the Ghana Army had received from France over the past years.
He noted that Ghanaian troops, who took French courses in Ghana and overseas, �were giving good account of themselves in their work.�
The CDS noted that the French Language was important in Ghana, since she was surrounded by Francophone countries and urged Ghanaians to learn the French Language, adding that it would also help the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to participate effectively in international peacekeeping operations.
He urged troops to be conscious and cooperate with each, especially when on peacekeeping missions.
Mr Clavier announced that France had decided to upgrade her relations with Ghana and paid tribute to the GAF for bringing up more programmes which would enable troops from various countries to come together and work hand-in-hand.
Mr Clavier noted that peace was the most essential commodity any country desired to have and commended Ghana for the role she played especially in peacekeeping.
He was accompanied by Lieutant Colonel Charles Miguel, France Defence Attach� in Ghana.
Other dignitaries present at the meeting were, Commodore G.M. Biekro, Chief of Staff, General Headquarters, Brigadier General B.G. Sagbul, Director General of Personnel Administration, and Commodore S.K. Darbo, Director General of Training.
