Christian Council Condemns Ken Agyapong's 'vile' Comments

The Christian Council of Ghana has condemned comments by NPP MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong describing it as unfortunate and regrettable. Speaking on Breakfast XYZ, the General Secretary of the Christian Council, Reverend Fred Deegbe noted that the law enforcement agencies must deal decisively with any politician who uses vile language ahead of the December polls. The NPP firebrand was picked up and interrogated by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police Service over comments described by the Police CID as treasonable. The lawmaker is alleged to have declared war on opponents of the NPP on his radio station Oman FM on Friday. His arrest and subsequent detention sparked some riots by NPP members who trooped to the CID headquarters to demand the release of the outspoken NPP member. Rev. Deegbe in his reaction urged the leadership of the NPP to appeal to their supporters to exercise restraint and put an end to the violence that they started on Monday evening. He also slammed various media houses for re-broadcasting the audio recording of Hon. Agyapong, saying such practice will only get people more agitated and increase the tension in the country. Mr. Agyapong who spent the night in BNI cells is being investigated by the Police CID for treason. It is still not clear when he will be released but XYZ News checks indicate that there is a heavy Police presence at the BNI head office to curtail any untoward behavior by supporters of Kennedy Agyapong.
