Heroin In Condoms-Man, 38, Nabbed At Neoplan Station

A 38-year-old man, John Amaechi, has been arrested by the police for possessing 63 parcels of narcotic substances wrapped in pieces of condom. The substances, which weighed 2.5 kilograms and were whitish, reddish and yellowish in colour, after a field test by officials of the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) at the Accra Regional Headquarters proved to be heroin and amphetamine. Briefing the press in Accra yesterday, the Accra Regional Commander, DCOP Patrick Timbillah, said the suspect was arrested on April 17 at about 10.00am at the Neoplan Station in Accra on his way to Nigeria. John arrived in Ghana on April 16 by air from Venezuela, but he was apprehended upon a tip-off as he was about to transit to Nigeria the following day. DCOP Timbillah said a search of his luggage led to the discovery of the substance concealed in a black polythene bag which was suspected to be cocaine. The suspect has been handed over to NACOB for further investigations. DCOP Timbillah reiterated the point that policing is a shared responsibility and not the preserve of the police only, adding that the police depended on accurate and timely information to embark on its operation. He called on the public to volunteer relevant information to the police for criminals to be arrested and dealt with by law. DCOP Timbillah thanked the informants who gave the police the tip-off leading to the arrest of the suspect. In attendance at the press conference were the Deputy Regional Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, as well as the Deputy Crime Officer, Superintendent Baffour-Apenteng.
