Three NPP Agents Granted GHS 9,000 Bail For Assault

A Tarkwa circuit court has granted bail in the sum of GHS 9,000 with one surety each to three supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for assaulting one Mamudu Jaloo and causing damage to his old voter identity card. They pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on May 9. Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that the complainant is a small scale miner in Huni Valley while the first, second and third accused are Abiam Kuntu Danso, farmer, Kojo Appiah Takyi, student, 22 and Bismark Opoku carpenter, are all residents in the same vicinity. He said on April 11 the accused persons went to the Anglican Junior High School in Fanti New Town at Huni Valley registration center and met the complainant in a queue who was waiting to be registered. The accused persons pulled and heckled him out of the queue and in the process first accused person collected his old voter identity card and tore it. Inspector Amponsah said a report was made to the police and the accused were arrested. The judge cautioned all political party supporters to adhere to the rules instituted by the Electoral Commission by requesting for a challenge form to file complain against those they suspect are not qualified to register.
