Newly graduated recruits of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have been admonished to eschew all forms of activities that will question their integrity and professionalism as officers of the service. The new recruits were advised to exercise the greatest caution in their daily activities, especially with travellers, as indiscipline would not go unpunished. Deputy Minister for Interior, Kwabena Akyeampong, gave this advice to the recruits during their passing out ceremony at the Army Recruit Training School at Shai Hills. A total of 230 recruits passed out after under-going four months training in drills, physical building, weapon handling and academic and general immigration duties. Out of the total number, 120 were females while 110 were males. The deputy minister said the leadership of the Immigration Service was committed to ensuring that young officers of the service respected the rules and code of conduct of the service. �Officers who are not disciplined will be showed early exit from the service before their acts of gross indiscipline grow into monstrous dimensions,� he said. He said the world of work was fraught with risks as well as opportunities thus �the way you conduct yourselves will determine whether you have a bright future in the service.� He also cautioned the new recruits against the quest for quick money that often forced them to engage in all manner of unspeakable vices which eventually led to trouble and dismissals. �The government will not condone the illegal activities of any miscreants who take advantage of their uniforms to perpetuate various acts of criminality. Such deviants will be dealt with according to the law,� the deputy minister noted. He however assured them that genuine money and honour awaited officers who had patience, were hard working, loyal, obedient and dedicated to duty. The deputy minister further encouraged them to dedicate themselves to maintaining the peace in the country. He said as security officers in the up-coming elections, they should discharge their duties with uncompromising impartiality and professionalism. �It is my expectation that you distinguish yourselves in the field and make your trainers and service proud,� he said. Awards were also given to outstanding recruits who had distinguished themselves in the course of their training. Emmanuel Tetteh Aguedzi was adjudged the overall best recruit while Felicia Antwi Kwakyewaa took the most disciplined recruit. Patrick Baengarinwola also took home an award for emerging as the best in academics.
