Acute Fuel Shortage Hits Accra

Fuel stations in parts of Accra have run out of petrol for the past three days. Station managers have been telling Citifmonline.com that the actual reasons behind the shortage are unclear. Citifmonline.com's checks at some Total, Goil and Shell filling stations around Kwashieman, Taifa, Odorkor, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Achimota among other areas have revealed that diesel is being sold, but the conspicuous sign of "No Petrol" welcomes would-be petrol buyers. "It's really frustrating and no one is telling us anything," Kwame Ofosu, a taxi driver told Citifmonline.com. "When you go here no petrol and there no petrol, what sort of life is this." A Goil Service Station manager, James Lawson, said: "We've been told there is an issue with supply from source, so we're waiting. We have run out of petrol for over three days now." Officials at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) could not be readily be reached for comment, but Citifmonline.com is picking signals that the situation will normalise from Wednesday.
