CEPS, GIS Officers Burnt In Accident

Two immigration officers and a Customs officer were burnt to death on Friday, when the vehicle on which they were travelling caught fire after an accident near Elubo. They were Albert Sowah, 58, the Customs officer, and Hannah Afful, 28, an Immigration Officer, both at the Elubo border, and Daniel Owusu, an Immigration Officer in Accra. The Jomoro District Police Commander, Superintendent John Ferguson Dzineku, speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Hlaf Assini on Saturday, said Owusu visited the wife, Hannah Afful at the Elubo border on Friday, and asked Mr. Sowah to give them a lift to the outskirts of the town. On their way, however, the Benz car, being driven by Mr. Sowah, ran into a stationary car at a washing bay. He said following the accident, the Benz car, which uses gas, burst into flames and Sowah and Hannah, who were occupying the front seats, got burnt beyond recognition. Owusu, who was at the back seat, was rushed to the Elubo Health Centre but died as a result of the severe burns he had. The bodies have been deposited at the Half Assini Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while police investigations continue
