STATEMENT: PNC Greets All Workers

On the celebration of the annual workers ritual of MAY DAY today, the PEOPLES NATIONAL CONVENTION-PNC deems it imperative to send loads of gratitude and appreciation to the working peoples of our nation, Ghana. It is common knowledge that the workers of Ghana have always put in their all to move the wheels of the Ghanaian state in all spheres of life; socially, politically and above all economically. Most of these workers have to defy the so many constraints and odds that come along with their work to ensure that they contribute their quota to the overall socio-economic development of Ghana. Indeed, the ordinary worker is confronted with all manner of deplorable conditions of work ranging from low salaries and remuneration to high job risk and insecurity both in the formal and informal sectors of the economy. In paying glowing tribute to these workers for showing faith and commitment in nation building, it is still important for them to be reminded that laxity and laziness abound in the various work places especially in the public sector. In view of this, we implore the workers to eschew these acts of laxity and laziness towards their work to help us in advocating for their welfare as well as improved service conditions. Fellow Ghanaians, while we urge the ordinary Ghanaian worker to put in his/her best for the total development and transformation of Dr. Kwame Nkrumahs Ghana, we would mince no words in calling on the captains of industry and the government in particular (largest employer) to have a critical look at the service conditions of the various categories of workers. The Ghana employers association as well as government must evolve competitive and appreciable incentive packages for the workers under their watch to assure job satisfaction and yield higher levels of productivity. It is the belief of the PNC that given the right service conditions, the Ghanaian worker would contribute immensely and positively to help Ghana realize her place as promised at independence. We say a BIG THANK-YOU to the workers and wish them a very joyous workers day celebration across the country. BERNARD MORNAH General Secretary
