3 Togolese Nabbed Over Registration

Three Togolese arrested for fraudulently participating in the ongoing registration exercise at Kotobabi in Accra have been charged for electoral offences and will be in court today. Bodjrenou Kossi Mawutodji, 29, Kouassi Alaim, 29, both cooks, and Koumako Ablam, 29, resident of Kotobabi, were arrested and detained at the Kotobabi Police Station in Accra on Sunday, April 29, 2012 for illegal registration. Sources said Mawutodji succeeded in registering as a Ghanaian while the two others were in the process of registering at the Geraldo International Registration Centre at Alajo before they were identified as Togolese. They would have gone through the registration process without a hitch but for the alertness of the NPP agent, who called the attention of the electoral officer to the names raising suspicions about their identities, a source told DAILY GUIDE. The agents suspicions were confirmed when the foreigners fumbled when they were quizzed about their true identities. Subsequently, they were arrested by the EC official and handed over to the Kotobabi Police who charged them with the offence after investigations. The three detainees alleged that they had lived in the country between two and six years. Another eyewitness said a certain NDC operative in the company of others had turned up at the registration centre complaining about why the Togolese had turned up in a group instead of coming individually as agreed upon.
