Tension Mounts At SIC As Workers Fume Over MD's Dismissal

Information reaching XYZ BUSINESS indicates that tension is mounting among most workers of the State Insurance Company (SIC). The workers are said to be furious with the dismissal of the Managing Director Ben Acolatse. XYZ BUSINESS has learnt that Mr. Acolatse who was sacked by the board headed by Max Cobinna on Friday has immense backing from almost the entire staff of the insurance giant. Questions are being raised about the dismissal of Ben Acolatse because he was nominated by President Mills for approval from the board. According to the workers, the dismissal of Mr. Acolatse is morally wrong and does not augur well for corporate governance. XYZ BUSINESS also gathers that Mr. Acolatses appointment was terminated because he was believed to have done some transfers without the boards approval. However, some of the workers XYZ BUSINESS spoke to on condition of anonymity said the transfer is a routine practice in every established institution. They however suspect that one Ms Bawa, Area Manager of the Kumasi Branch, who was asked to take another position in Takoradi is behind the sacking of Mr. Acolatse. They alleged Ms Bawa influenced some of the board members since she was unhappy to proceed to Takoradi. They also rubbished the identifiable group who are justifying the dismissal of Ben Acolatse. According to them, Mr. Acolatses administration has grown premium income substantially since assuming office in 2009, while improving their welfare, particularly of those who have served the company for a very long time. So what posture will shareholders, particularly government, take? Meanwhile, XYZ BUSINESS can confirm that the General Manager of the company, Mr. Ofori-Kraku has submitted a voluntary retirement letter.
