Fight Over Palaver Sauce And Yam Cost Barber His Life

When he stepped in to separate two friends who were engaged in a fierce fight, a 32-year-old barber, John Ackom, thought he was trying to do the right thing, but his act of kindness cost him his life. The two friends were fighting over the left-over yam and palaver sauce they had prepared, but the deceased, John Ackom, a resident of Odorkor, was rendered unconscious when one of the suspects, Francis Awuah, 25, accidentally hit him with a stick he was using to fight his friend, Tweneboa Koduah, 35. Meanwhile, the two suspects are in police custody at the Odorkor Police Station in Accra. Briefing The Finder, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Freeman Tettey, said at about 6:30pm on May 13, the two friends who lived in the same house at Odorkor Gloryland returned home only to find out that their left-over food had been eaten. Francis and Tweneboa � watch and shoe sellers respectively � accused each other of eating the left-over yam and palaver sauce, leading to a quarrel between the two. In the process, according to DSP Tettey, John (deceased), who was at the scene, drew closer to the suspects to separate them. Francis used a stick he was holding to accidentally hit John, who fell unconscious and was rushed to the Ga-South Municipal Hospital at Weija, but he passed away on Saturday, May 19, while on admission. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for autopsy. Meanwhile, DSP Tettey said investigations are ongoing, which would inform the decision of the police on the kind of charge to prefer against the suspects.
