I Respect The Supreme Court Judges, But I Believe They Erred - Shocked Okudzeto Says

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled in favour of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi Lamptey regarding a state bungalow he purchased when he allegedly was the Minister of Tourism in the erstwhile Kufuor administration. The ruling did not go down well with the plaintiffs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister for Information and Dr. Omane Boamah, a Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, who have indicated their resolve to seek a review of the Supreme Court's decision. Speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FMs "Kokrokoo" Morning Show, Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed shock at the ruling. According to him, they provided all the facts that needed to be presented to the court and therefore cannot fathom why the judges ruled in favour of Obetsebi-Lamptey. I respectfully disagree because if we want to convert those bungalows to flats why should it be given to a private person to develop and then collect the rent and pocket it as his personal proceeds? Why should an individual profit from a state bungalow? We still do not understand the judgment It is in the national interest to exercise all the rights available to us, which include, pursuing a review available to us as well as other legitimate steps that will ensure that we get a fair judgment," he said. The Deputy Information Minister who is also aspiring to be the NDCs Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu constituency in the Volta Region wonders which other evidence the court needs since they have already provided them with every available piece of evidence. They are saying the evidence we provided was not enough and we are asking that which other evidence do they need when the letter awarding the bungalow to Jake Obetsebi Lamptey is signed by the Lands Commissioner who says he was working on behalf of the Minister of Works and Housing on the authority of the President of the Republic? If this is not conflict of interest, abuse of office, then I dont know what else is. I respect the Judges; I respect the highest court of the land but I believe they erred. We are not letting this matter go and we are not accepting judgment. We want to pursue it because it is the right available to us. Early next week, we will outline series of legitimate measures which we want to take to ensure that the right thing is done. This is just the beginning of this matter, he stated.
