TWO MEN have been sentenced to 50 years� imprisonment in hard labour by the Tema Circuit Court �A� presided over by Kyei Baffour on two counts of conspiracy and robbery.
The two, Yusif Inusah, unemployed, and Jerry Damoah, a driver, were each given 10 years on the count of conspiracy and 15 years for robbery but their sentences would run concurrently.
Narrating the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere, told the court that on December 28, 2012, at about 2:00am, after closing from work, the complainant decided to visit his girlfriend, who resides at Basket, near Zenith Bank on the Spintex Road.
At his girlfriend�s house, they sat on a bench placed outside the girl�s room to chat. According to the prosecutor, while the two lovers were chatting, they sighted four men approaching them. The men, who were in masks, suddenly surrounded them with cutlasses and a pistol and ordered them to surrender their mobile phones and cash.
The complainant was said to have quickly given his mobile phone to them out of fear. The two convicts were said to have removed their masks during the operation, exposing their faces to the complainant and his girlfriend.
The girl, according to the prosecutor, noticed a wristwatch on the wrists of one of the assailants while he was holding the gun.
The four men, who were not satisfied with what they had gotten, escorted the two to the bedroom, where the girl�s siblings were sleeping, and woke them up at gun point and demanded for their mobile phones.
The man, who did not want to lose his contacts, pleaded with the four to hand over his chip to him but this comment annoyed the men, causing one of them to order that he be slashed with a cutlass. However, another member insisted that no one must be harmed.
In the course of the argument, the youngest sibling of the lady, who was afraid, screamed and attracted the attention of some neighbours.
The men, sensing danger, took to their heels and escaped. The prosecutor further noted that at about 4:30pm the same day, while the complainant and his girlfriend were seated at the scene where they had been attacked, they saw the two convicts passing by.
The two lovebirds recognized them as those who had attacked them earlier and quickly raised the alarm. One of the robber�s wristwatch noticed by the lady during the attack, also gave them away.
The two quickly took to their heels but on-lookers present at the time gave them a hot chase and Yusif was arrested.
Jerry, according to the prosecutor, was arrested when he went to the police station to visit his accomplice.
They were then arraigned before the court after investigations, and were each sentenced to 15 years� imprisonment after trial.
