Drivers Express Joy At IGP's New Directive

Some commercial drivers in Ashaiman and the Tema metropolis say they are excited about the Inspector General of Polices (IGP) directive instructing police to stop checking drivers license, road worthy and insurance certificates of drivers. According to the IGP, Paul Tawiah Quaye, the police administration has taken the decision following the recent wave of road accidents. He has asked the officers to focus on road traffic management. Following the announcement, some of the drivers who spoke to XYZ News said the police deliberately waste their time when they fail to bribe them after checking their car documents. The drivers said the IGPs directive is a relief to them as it will make their operations more comfortable. Meanwhile, Vice President of the Ashaiman Municipal Private Transport Operators Co-ordinating Council, John Buckle, has told XYZ News the council is liaising with the police to check the status of every vehicle at the station before taking off. He said the council will also ensure that its members do not act irresponsibly as a result of the new directive.
