New Districts Should Create Employment

The newly created municipal and district assemblies are expected to play a leading role in creating district-level employment opportunities. Speaking on behalf of the President last Thursday, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Mr Henry Martey Newman, said the assemblies were also expected to lead the way in the consolidation of Ghanas middle-level country status. Mr Newman was speaking at the inauguration of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, which was formerly known as La Sub-Metro. The Accra Metropolitan Assemblys (AMA) Chief Executive, Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, asked assembly members to take decisions in the best interest of the people of La and not for their personal gain. He entreated the leaders of the newly created assembly not to neglect the unfinished projects by the AMA in the municipality, but to continue with them and also ensure the proper maintenance of completed projects. The La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, expressed gratitude to the President for granting La Sub-Metro an independent status, and appealed to the people of La to co-operate with their leaders in order to make development effective. The newly created municipality was carved out of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
