The chairman of Ghana�s Electoral Commission (EC), Kwadwo Afari Gyan says the EC will continue with its decision to proceed with the Kwabre East and Wulensi parliamentary elections until the court stops them. He added that the EC will also use the old register and old voters ID card for the two pending by-elections even though it is widely challenged by various political parties. The four main political parties in the country � the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention People�s Party (CPP) and the People�s National Convention (PNC) have jointly sued the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General to prevent the EC from going ahead with the by-elections in the two constituencies. Speaking however in an interview on Okay FM�s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Dr. Afari Gyan stated that the EC is mandated by the constitution of Ghana to hold the by-elections and would go ahead to fulfill that obligation. He said the four political parties did the right thing by going to the court to pursue their agenda but the EC will not be intimidated by that. �We are still working towards holding the by-elections in the two constituencies since the court has not stopped us." He added that even though the biometric registration has been done, the cards are not ready for use so the EC will still accept only the old ID for the two by-elections. He added the biometric voter�s ID is still in the process and can only be used to vote when all the procedure is completed. Mr. Afari Gyan urged all Ghanaians who have misplaced their old voter�s ID card to go to their nearest EC office for replacement because that is the one in use for now.
